what i’m up to right now

career

Had a good first six months at Meta, starting to meet people and learn more about the interactions b/w my team and the rest of FB. Trying my best to navigate the New World Order of using (but not abusing) LLMs in software engineering. Unfortunately to stay “ahead” I’ll have to use them to automate as much of my menial work as possible. The hidden imperative is also to stop having menial tasks dominate my workflow by aggressively looking for opportunities to scope out my own projects. Thankfully unlike some other companies we aren’t being token limited so I have a good playground to figure out this balance.

If I’ve been sold on a lie and software engineering will just go bust in 2 years you’ll catch me at the Discount Tire reevaluating my life choices.

personal life

Going through an adjustment right now after moving from the Bay, where I’ve lived my whole life, to Seattle, where I never imagined living right up until I was told I had to go there. Hopefully making a somewhat positive name in the Washington State car community. Also hope to take advantage of the lack of vehicle inspection while I’m up here and “build my dreams”.

Probably working on becoming a better person by any means necessary. I do think I’m a generally solitary person but that should change. However companionship is earned and I can’t really get much of that just sulking around and being sad all day. I’ll need to put in effort and find motivation.

Improving my skiing skills somewhat to the point where I can confidently go down black diamonds, even with suboptimal terrain. Unfortunately, my friends will NOT let me forget that I’m still a bottom feeder in the Slopes ranking. The season has also been utterly atrocious in terms of snow. Hopefully there’s a late saving grace,

Purchased a Honda K24 to swap into my car. Since my last blog post, I’ve done a little more research on what this entails. The biggest kicker that actually encouraged me to do this swap was that one of the kit fabricators was indeed a local shop that also deals in tunes, etc. Thus, there is a consistent and accessible support base for me to undertake this swap. It also opens the option of paying a sizable sum of money to have someone else do this and keep my own hands clean. It might be more rewarding in hindsight to DIY and pay some friends in food and alcohol instead, but the car also seems to be cursed from previous working attempts and nothing seems to work the first time. Or maybe I’m just incompetent and getting angered by my own awful decisions.

music rotation

Every few months or so I make a new Spotify playlist with an assortment of songs. The most recent iteration will be linked here until I get off Spotify.
